New York City has played host to many films and television programs, with many of our favourite scenes taking place in some of the city's restaurants. Fancy a taste of the silver screen? Here’s our list of iconic New York City restaurants and diners immortalised in television and film.

Katz’s Delicatessen from When Harry Met Sally

Katz’s Delicatessen played host to THAT scene from When Harry Met Sally, and where Estelle Reiner served her iconic line ‘I’ll have what she’s having’.

A Jewish deli, Katz’s is famous for its pastrami, corned beef and stomach defying “mile-high” sandwiches.

Katz’s has been featured in Donnie Brasco, Enchanted and Across the Universe to name a few. Mark Wahlburg, Eva Mendes, Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan are just a few of the big names who have graced the restaurant on film.

Buddakan from Sex and the City

In the big screen adaptation of Sex and the City, Buddakan was the location of Carrie and Mr Big’s wedding rehearsal dinner.

Decadent and ornate, this luxurious restaurant is famous for its dim sum, noodles and cocktails. It’s a must for any of you Asian cuisine lovers who are looking for an upmarket experience in Manhattan.

Café Lalo from You’ve Got Mail

You’ve Got Mail is the story of two business rivals who fall in love over the internet (a time before Tinder). Starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, Café Lalo makes an appearance in the film as the location of their first face-to-face meeting.

Café Lalo is recognised for its cakes, pies and tarts. If you have a sweet craving whilst in New York, Café Lalo is a must. Their all day menu also includes a number of tasty salads and international brunches, in case something more savoury is your tipple.

Rao’s Restaurant from Wolf of Wall Street

The notorious 2013 movie The Wolf of Wall Street featured Rao’s Restaurant. Roa’s had it’s shining moment when DiCaprio’s character met with a private investigator after realising he was under an FBI investigation.

This restaurant has been opened since 1896 and has made a name for itself, becoming one of New York’s most talked-about restaurants.

As well as being a location in The Wolf of Wall Street, it was also the location of Jay Z’s D.O.A music video.

Tom’s Restaurant from Seinfeld

This family-ran restaurant is a Greek-American favourite. Better-known as Monk’s Diner from hit sitcom Seinfeld; Jerry, George, Elaine and Cosmo visit the diner in almost every episode.

Although Seinfeld actually used the interior of a different restaurant than its exterior is what’s iconic. Tom’s Restaurant is also the subject of the Suzanne Vega song “Tom’s Diner”.

Tom’s serves a great selection of homemade meals and fast food, so there’s something for everyone. They also offer a special menu which changes daily and weekly showing no compromise on variety.
