Summer is the time for vacations, beer gardens… and PRIDE! With the global celebrations drawing to a close for the year, Amsterdam is one of the last cities in the line up to throw their annual pride parade. And with the streets being so narrow and easy to get lost in, the people pour out to the canals! Enjoy watching from one of the overlooking bridges and marvel at the canal ‘floats’, bursting with colour and music. If you’re only joining one pride parade this year, it’s got to be Amsterdam.
Watch over 40 independent full-length features and shorts from nowhere else but the streets of Amsterdam. The World Cinema Amsterdam is open at four different locations this summer and is free to watch. Grab some beers, grab your besties and immerse yourself in the heart of the city. Watch contemporary cinema the right way!
Usually known for it’s EDM and dance culture, Amsterdam is home to the Appelsap (apple juice) music festival where you’ll find offerings from local and international hip-hop and soul artists. With 2018 being it’s 18th year in the running, Appelsap has a loyal following of people who have grown up with the music and culture that the festival celebrates. Expect the next generation of hip-hop along with some all-time heroes.
Spend a family filled Saturday or a lady Sunday afternoon watching the goings on at the Openair Theatre. This annual offering runs from June through to September; there you will find a wide range of performances ranging from stand-up comedy to contemporary dance. The theatre is free to enjoy and is situated right in the centre of Vondelpark – one of the city’s most well-known spots. Check it out!
With the beautiful city of Amsterdam as a backdrop, celebrate the art of classical music at the Grackten Festival. Running throughout the Summer, this ten-day festival is the highlight of the city’s cultural calendar. The highlight of the festival, most definitely, is the Prinsengracht Concert. This event is hosted from the pontoon on the canal with hundreds enjoying the music from canal boats or the bankside. Any city with water running through it is incredibly calming – pair that with an evening listening to the city’s finest musicians and it’ll be a night to remember.
Join 100,000 fellow party animals at this years Mysteryland Festival. Holland is home to some of the world’s most successful EDM, dance and House DJs, they’re all coming to Haarlemmermeer, just 5km from Schiphol Airport. Skip out on the inner city experience and head to the longest running electronic music festival in the world. If you need a shower and a decent sleep before your flight back home, our Schipol hotel is a great choice. We’re right inside the terminal so you won’t need to worry about going to the city centre to rest.
