From the kid-friendly movies like Home Alone 2 or Elf, to the romantic classics like When Harry Met Sally or You’ve Got Mail; no other city has the connection to Christmas like New York. We’ve mapped out the top iconic New York Christmas Movie Locations within a guide for you to visit during your stay.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York 

Who could forget the classic Christmas tale of the Kevin McCallister, the forgotten child of the family who’s left home on Christmas? This heart-warming comedy features ingenious traps, zinging one-liners and a festive theme as Kevin makes his way to New York City. Poor Kevin accidentally boards a plane to the wrong destination and ends up in LaGuardia Airport, with his adventure taking him all over the city. The iconic sight locations include Radio City Music Hall, the Statue of Liberty, the World Trade Center, Times Square and the Rockefeller Centre. For a small lost kid, he certainly manages to make the most of his stay in the city! He even briefly meets the now-President, Donald Trump - not sure that we can guarantee the same for you!

Miracle on 34th Street 

With only five days filming in New York, the cast of this iconic movie managed to visit some of the most famous locations in the Big Apple. You can retrace the steps Susan, played by child star Mara Wilson, in the city’s most recognisable locations. Tour the Central Park Zoo and enjoy the Wollman Skating Rink to replay some of the heartwarming scenes from the film. Of course, the 34th Street is the star of the film, with the fictional “Cole’s” standing in place of renowned department store Macy’s. Take a wander around Macy’s stunning Christmas displays and who knows… you may just spot Kris Kringle!

This famous New York Christmas comedy follows the trials of Buddy, an adopted Christmas elf, as he tries to restore the Christmas spirit to his long-lost father. This film has all the iconic spots: The Empire State Building, Central Park, Queensboro Bridge, Rockefeller Center and department store Gimbel’s. Despite the latter no longer existing, the numerous famous department stores in New York City should help you find your Christmas spirit. Elf costumes are encouraged, but not required!

When Harry Met Sally 

This romantic comedy sees Harry and Sally slowly fall in love over twelve years of meeting one another in New York. The pair flirt and squabble around various locations all over the city, from the Arch in Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village to the Boathouse Restaurant in Central Park. Perhaps the most iconic scene of this New York film is Katz’s Delicatessen, at 2015 East Houston Street, which has a table labelled specifically for film fans to choose and replicate the now-infamous dining scene. There’s also the Skylight Ballroom at the Puck Building, where (spoiler alert!) Harry and Sally finally confirm their love for one another at the New Year’s Eve Party!

You can buy black cashmere gloves at the iconic department store, and have a delicious dessert at Serendipity 3, located at 225 East 60th Street. Follow it up with a skating session at the iconic Central Park’s ice rink, and maybe you’ll meet your future loved one with the magic of New York’s festive season!

You’ve Got Mail

This well-loved Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan film, directed by Nora Ephron, is a classic New York movie. While not strictly a Christmas film, this lovely tale of bookstore owners at war falling in love is a wonderful film for the festive season.

Hanks’ newspaper journalist for The New York Observer and Ryan’s independent bookstore owner clash in person but fall in love over email, with plenty of iconic New York locations providing the couple with the chance to be romantic. You can stop at The Shop Around the Corner’s real-world inspiration or grab a hot dog at Gray’s Papaya, at 2090 Broadway at 72nd Street, and eat at Ocean Grill at 382 Columbus Avenue to replicate some of the film’s foodie scenes. The film’s sweet final scene is at 91st Street Garden in Riverside Park where Joe revealed himself to Kathleen as the man behind the screen leading to the awaited kiss - proving love can even blossom online.
