SOME GENERAL TIPS
San Francisco has its own little micro climate so prepare for everything. Temperatures are pretty stable all year round, but June and July bring fog and chilly 55°F (13°C) weather to SF; August, September and October are best for warm weather, street fairs and harvest cuisine.
Expect higher estimated travel times when travelling during rush hour – sometimes it might just be easier and quicker to walk when in town, but allow extra time if you need to get to the airport. Rush hour can vary, but typical times are from 7:30am - 9.30am and 4:00pm- 7:00pm (07:30-09:30 and 16:00-19:00).
Taxi cabs are metered and can be paid in cash, credit card or debit card (using the touch screen monitor). Tipping is at your discretion, but usually ranges from 15-20% of total charges. Smart phone travel apps work really well in San Francisco and are a great way to get around quickly without breaking the bank.
