Pumpkin spice and all things spooky, Halloween is right around the corner and we’re giving you the latest from San Francisco, a city with one of the most diverse selections of Halloween celebrations. The Bay Area is notorious for offering more than just your average costume party with creative takes on the frightful holiday, all within close proximity to YOTEL San Francisco.

1. INTO THE DARK (Now through 10 November, Sunday)

Now in its second year, Into the Dark takes over The San Francisco Mint historic building for an interactive experience that promises to frighten to the very core. The hour-long walk of terror through the immersive Terror Vault haunted house, features an 80’s-themed zombie survival game called “Apocalypse,” and a “Morbid Midway” featuring Halloween-themed bars, as well as vintage arcade games. Tickets range from $10.00 –  $62.00, depending on the experience.

How to get there: YOTEL San Francisco puts you closest to the action of Into the Dark as The San Francisco Mint building is just an 8-minute walk (or 5 minute cab ride) from the hotel, located at 88 5th Street.

2. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE LIVE! (Now through 10 November, Sunday)

Bring your sense of humor and garlic to the drag edition of the hit 90’s TV show on life as a vampire slayer. The freaky yet comedic parody sinks its teeth into the popular musical episode, “Once More With Feeling,” after Buffy is brought back from the dead and has trouble adjusting to life amongst her friends. Tickets to the musical theater shenanigans start at $27.50.

How to get there: Set adjacent to the arts and theater artist, YOTEL San Francisco is in the ideal zone for getting around. Take the BART right across the hotel at 7th Street and Market Street to Market Street & South Van Ness Ave, about a 12-minute ride, or hop in a 7-minute cab ride.

3. GLOW IN THE STREETS (26 October, Saturday)

It’s not all ghosts and goblins on the streets for Halloween. The third annual Glow in the Streets block party takes place this Saturday, lighting up Noe Street with neon face and body paint, local artistry and live DJ and performances. Entry to the colorful festival is free with a request for a $10.00 donation that will go towards community support of local artists and special events. 

How to get there: Your glow up is only a few minutes from YOTEL San Francisco. Take the BART right across the hotel at 7th Street and Market Street to Castro Station, about 12 minutes total, or hop into a 10-minute cab ride.

4. CREATURES OF THE NIGHTLIFE AT THE CREATIVE ACADEMY OF THE SCIENCES (31 October, Thursday)

Nightlife takes on new meaning at the celebration of supernatural science on the spookiest night of the year. Revelers can set their sights on nature’s real-life thrillers with an aquarium exhibition that includes a colorful interactive Dia de Los Muertos altar, in addition to a Halloween drag show and costume contest, as well as a live stand-up ghost stories comedy event. Tickets start at $17.25. 

How to get there: The road to critters and crawlies is a short ride from YOTEL San Francisco. Take the BART right across the hotel at 7th Street and Market Street to Lincoln Way & 5th Avenue, about 30 minutes total, or hop into a 15-minute cab ride.
