INTERVIEW WITH YOTEL BOSTON'S GENERAL MANAGER CHRISTOPHER HARTZELL
Things are heating up in Boston with a new YOTEL set to open this summer, the second city YOTEL after the launch of YOTEL New York a few years back. We talk to Christopher Hartzell, General Manager of our hotel in Boston to get the low-down on what the hotel will be like.
Where is the hotel located in Boston and what is the area like?
YOTEL Boston will be in the heart of Boston’s buzzy Innovation District at 65 Seaport Boulevard. The hotel will be in sight of Boston Harbor and within walking distance to the World Trade Center, Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, The Institute of Contemporary Art and the financial district. We are also extremely public transport accessible with the MBTA Silver Line subway station located literally within our basement. This station is one stop from South Station, a subway, train and bus hub, and two stops from Logan Airport.
The Innovation District, an enclave within Boston’s Seaport neighbourhood, is known for its booming tech scene (recently welcoming GE’s HQ), luxury high rises and co-working spaces. The influx of creative minds has also brought quaint cafes, inventive menus, pioneering public art and cool outdoor gathering spots like The Rose Kennedy Greenway and The Lawn on D. This neighbourhood is a perfect fit for the YOTEL guest and our water views don’t hurt either!
Tell us more about what the hotel will be like?
Guests enter at Mission Control where they can utilize our ‘make it easier’ technology and check themselves in or be greeted by one of our Crew who will provide assistance. The ground floor will also be home to our Club Lounge, a beautifully designed space perfect for relaxing, co-working, or enjoying beverage and food!
Our hotel will have 326 amazing cabins featuring YOTEL’s signature SmartBeds, monsoon showers, Smart TVs, super-fast and free Wi-Fi – providing our guests with everything they need and nothing they don’t!
Our Sky Lounge and Rooftop Terrace will be some of the most coveted spots in Boston. Offering indoor and outdoor spaces for cocktailing, dining, socializing, meeting or just enjoying the panoramic water and neighbourhood views – it will be the place to be and be seen! The bar will be open to the public and hotel guests alike.
What makes this hotel different to other options in Boston currently?
YOTEL Boston offers a fresh and innovative approach to hospitality. We take the essential elements of luxury hotels and place them into smart spaces, while redefining time for the guest experience, all at very competitive rates.
We pride ourselves on our thoughtful approach to service combining technology like our YOTEL mobile app, along with traditional in-person hospitality.
Our crew also go above and beyond to make guest experiences special. I believe you can go anywhere to get a traditional hotel experience –a bed to sleep in and a meal to eat. However, great hospitality is the service, experience and environment which are created for you. Our crew has been carefully picked, and are the best of the best in the industry from the Boston area.
What’s up with the rooftop bar?
YOTEL Boston is one of Boston’s few year-round rooftop bars. Our rooftop will feature amazing views of the Boston skyline and waterfront, craft cocktails, local beer, fabulous wines, and good vibes all four seasons.
Who do you expect to be staying at the hotel?
YOTEL is for everyone, the young and the young at heart, the business traveller and the urban adventurist. If you’re a person who appreciates innovation, style, culture, something new and fresh set in a true historical town, then you’ll love our hotel. Explore, eat, drink, experience and find out why we LOVE BOSTON. And P.S.: when in Boston, Cheers will not be the only place where everyone knows your name!
What sort of events are you planning to hold at the hotel?
We will host a variety of events showcasing local partnerships that we’ll be developing like rooftop wellness classes, live music and arts collaborations.
